According to the European Commission, there are 5 million people directly employed in the fashion industry. EU exports to the rest of the world account for more than 30% of the global market, reaching a turnover of 50 billion in 2019, and the EU single market is also one of the most important in terms of size, quality and design. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are at the core of the fashion, textile and clothing sectors, representing 99% of the 175,000 companies registered in the EU.
It is estimated that by 2025, new jobs in this sector will amount to 600,000 in the EU. This may happen because 36% of the workforce is currently over 50 years old, and is set to retire in the relatively near future. At the same time, older age groups of workers suggest that there is a need for training for new skills and knowledge. The project aims to create a network of regional Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) composed of VET providers, industry representatives (chambers, associations, companies, business support organisations, etc.) and wishes to develop a training programme that includes greener and more sustainable practices combined with smart specialisations and digital transformation training.
The training will target both SMEs in the fashion sector, vocational education and training providers, industry representatives (chambers, associations, companies, business support organisations) as well as students, graduates and trainers.
The training will benefit both young people in finding a job in such a sought-after sector as fashion and the environment itself as those involved will be trained in more sustainable and green processes.
The training program will take place in early 2024. Registration forms can be sent to info@katartisi.gr, with the subject "FEA-VEE Training Program".
